The Divisional Police Officer, DPO, in charge of Ipaja Police Station, Mr. Olusegun Titiladun Ayo(SP), has narrowly escaped death when he led a team of anti-robbery policemen to a robbery scene at Majiyagbe area of Ipaja, Lagos State, southwest Nigeria.
According to PMNEWS source, the robbers numbering about five, stormed the area at 2 a.m. and had successfully robbed some residents including a reverend father’s house where they (the robbers) ate catfish and drank some fruit juice before the DPO got a distress call and immediately mobilised his men to the area.
An eyewitness told PMNEWS that as soon as the DPO and his men approached the scene, the robbers opened fire on them and the police responded, resulting in an exchange of gun fire which lasted for about an hour and at the end, two of the robbers were arrested while others escaped with bullet wounds.
When PMNEWS visited Ipaja Police Station, the DPO was said to have gone on routine patrol but a senior police officer confirmed that the arrested robbers have been taken to the state Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, Ikeja for further investigation and promised that the fleeing robbers would be arrested very soon.
A resident of Ipaja who simply identified himself as Mr. Sunday Israel thanked the DPO for his fight against criminals in the area, saying since he assumed office, there has been peace in the area as he responds promptly to distress calls. He prayed that God will continue to protect him and his men.
