Salesman docked for alleged theft of beer worth N254,000


A 28-year-old sales man, Emmanuel Joseph, was on Monday arraigned for allegedly stealing beer worth N254,000.


Joseph, a resident of Ijora Badia, a suburb of Lagos, is facing a one count-charge of stealing before a Surulere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him.

Police prosecutor Franklin Akingboju told the court that the accused on August 22 allegedly stole the drinks belonging to his employer, Mr. Nwachukwu Ejiofor.

Akingboju said the alleged offence was committed at No. 1, Baale St., Orile Iganmu, Lagos, at 8.40 a.m.

“The complainant said that when he asked the accused about the drinks or its monetary value, he could not give a satisfactory account of it,” Akingboju said.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 285 of the Criminal Code Laws of Lagos State 2011.

The Magistrate, Mrs. A.O. Soladoye, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

She adjourned the case till September 21 for mention.
