What a bad record! The first drug trafficker to be arrested this new year, 2013, in Nigeria is King Sunny Ade’s ex-guitarist. He is 62-year-old Fatoke Abiodun (pictured above with the drugs).
Mr Fatoke, who said he was abandoned by Sunny Ade after serving the music legend for 30, was arrested on Tuesday January 1st 2013 with 1.575kg of cocaine.
Nigeria's anti-drug agency, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, said Fatoke was arrested on Tuesday while trying to board an Air France flight to Italy at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. The drug was discovered in the false bottom of his luggage during the screening of passengers to Italy.
During interrogation Fatoke said he played for KSA for 30 years before he was unceremoniously retired in 2007 and with nothing to fall back on, and with four wives and many children, the grandfather turned to drugs.
He begged for mercy and said this trip was his first attempt.
