Police deny beating LASAMBUS driver to death in Lagos

The Lagos police command yesterday denied the allegation leveled against its men that they are responsible for the murder of a 56-year-old driver of the Lagos State Ambulance Services (LASAMBUS), Mr. Jimoh Fasasi was reportedly killed for violating the new Lagos State traffic law by some policemen attached to Surulere division.


The Command described the allegation as untrue and baseless, noting that the late Fasasi slumped and died later in the hospital.

According to report, the deceased was reportedly heading home on his motorcycle otherwise known as Okada on the fateful evening but met his untimely death on reaching Stadium Bridge around the Barracks at about 7p.m. when a team of policemen who were enforcing the new traffic law allegedly seized his okoda for plying the bridge contrary to the new enacted law.




According to a reliable insider who doesn’t want his name to be mentioned; “Fasasi told Lateef that a policeman was beating him at Surulere, urging him to rush down. We were later told that as the policeman continued hitting him with the butt of his gun, he slumped in the process and started foaming in the mouth” .

Meanwhile, spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command, DSP Ngozi Braid affirmed that the said policemen did not have a hand in Fasasi’s death.

She said: “Rather, investigation conducted around the scene,” according to her, “revealed that after making calls on his phone, the deceased moved close to a petty trader who was selling soft drinks.

“When he got there, he started panting while the trader was staring at him. But after some time, he fell down and started shaking and foaming from the mouth. He was immediately rushed to the Island General Hospital, where the Divisional Police Officer was called at

night to say he had died.” Braid added.
