Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard takes an embarrassing fall during a visit to India.

Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard’s press conference at an Indian memorial on Wednesday fell flat - literally - when she took a tumble and found herself face down in front of news cameras.

Gillard was paying a visit to the Gandhi memorial in New Delhi on Wednesday when her heel got stuck in the grass and she landed on the ground.
“For men who get to wear flat shoes all day every day, if you wear a heel it can get embedded in soft grass and then when you pull your foot out the shoe doesn’t come,” she told reporters. “And the rest of it is as you saw.”

Gillard said her heel caught in the grass.

News of Gillard’s spill quickly spread, as Australian paper the Daily Telegraph reportedly plastered the picture on its front page with the headline “PM’s fall from grace.”
The Herald Sun also highlighted Gillard’s fall, suggesting her style choice was to blame.
“There comes a point in every woman’s life when she should say goodbye to high heels,” Sun writer Siobhan Duck opined. “As poor Julia Gillard has shown us this week, even a sensibly heeled court shoe can prove hazardous when strolling on a well-watered lawn.”

The Prime Minister found herself facedown on the ground.

Duck concluded by suggesting that “perhaps it’s time for the PM to trade those court shoes for a more dependable flat.”
That might be a recommendation worth considering for Gillard, since this marks the third time this year that the Prime Minister has struggled with her shoes.
In January a flap over her footwear made headlines when she lost a blue wedge heel during a chaotic confrontation with Aboriginal demonstrators outside of a restaurant in Sydney.
Trying to escape a crowd of protesters, Gillard tripped and lost her shoe, which was then taken by an Aboriginal political activist.

This marks the third shoe-related mishap for the politician this year.

The shoe was later returned, but not before a parody Tumblr was even created in honor of the incident.
The blog, called “Julia Gillard’s shoe,” describes itelf as chronicling “The quest to reunite Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard with her lost shoe. A sensible low-heeled, black Midas Glorify, size 36.”
Gillard then lost her shoe again on stage in Sydney in August, when she accidentally stepped out of one of her high heels on stage at Sydney’s Custom House.
She could reportedly be heard telling a male event attendee who helped her back into her heels that it was a “Cinderella moment.”
