Some men propose marriage at a restaurant or on a beach at sunset, but a Chicago pilot decided to do one better and pop the big question while pretending that the plane carrying him and his girlfriend is about to crash.


Ryan Thompson took his girlfriend, Carlie, on a private flight over the Windy City, where he planned to propose. Unbeknownst to the lucky lady, Thompson had planned to trick her into believing that the plane's controls were malfunctioning.

Buildup: At first, everything appeared fine and the couple were shown snapping pictures of one another and laughing

Mid-flight, he told his bride-to-be that he needed her to read the emergency procedure to him.

‘Honey, I need you to remain calm,’ Thompson says in a YouTube video capturing the ‘In Descent Proposal.’
Carlie, while appearing visibly shaken, proceeds to read off a sheet of paper handed to her by Thompson.

‘The checklist is complete … and it says the rings may be engaged … and to initiate the ring engagement procedure,’ his girlfriend reads.

‘Will you marry me?’ she continues, taking a few seconds to grasp that the plane is not actually about to go down, and that her boyfriend is actually proposing to her.

Luckily for the pilot, Carlie appreciated the high-flying hi-jinx and said ‘yes,’ receiving a sparkling diamond ring for her troubles and a great story to tell their future grandkids.

As if the adrenaline-pumping emergency scenario was no enough, Thompson concluded the flight by revealing to his new fiancée that the whole episode was caught on hidden camera.
