Tragedy as father shoots dead 15-year-old 'burglar' trying to loot his aunt's house, then realises it's his OWN SON

Tyler Giuliano was shot dead by his father, police said, as he tried to break into his aunt's home
A 15-year-old Connecticut boy was shot dead by his father on Thursday, as he tried to break into his aunt's home, police said.

His face hidden beneath a black ski mask, Tyler Giuliano was spotted by his aunt, Alexis Scocozz, as he set about what officers believe was an attempted late-night burglary.

Home alone and frightened, Scocozz sought help from Giuliano's father, Jeffrey, and also her next-door neighbour.

Mr Giuliano grabbed his gun and went outside to investigate, not knowing that the perpetrator was in fact his adopted son, Tyler.

He approached the masked teen outside the New Fairfield property, taking note of a shiny weapon in his hand and opening fire.

When police officers arrived at around 1am they found a distraught Mr Giuliano sitting on the grass next to the aunt's home, his son lying in the driveway with gunshot injuries.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

'All in all it's a tragedy,' state police spokesman Lt. J. Paul Vance said.
