Pregnant Woman, 4 Others Nabbed For Robbery

Members of a three-man robbery gang that operate in Lagos and Ogun states, southwest Nigeria have been arrested by men of the Special Anti-robbery Squad, (SARS), Lagos State Police Command.


The suspects, Lookman Bioku, 22, Lekan Jamiu, 24, Dare Johnson, 20, were arrested along with Ismaila Adebayo, 25, a.k.a. Last Born, said to be arms supplier to the gang, a pregnant woman, Adijat Azeez, 25, said to be the link between the gang and its gun supplier and Aminat Musibau, 19, a friend to the gang leader, Lookman Bioku.

Police said the suspects were arrested with three locally-made pistols and three live cartridges and one expended cartridge, by men of Bode Thomas Police Division, Surulere, when they attacked one of the residents of the area.

Police claimed that the arrest of the alleged gun supplier, Ismaila Adebayo, the pregnant woman and the girlfriend to the gang leader who were both residents of Ifo, Ogun state was made possible through the confession of the gang members.

During interrogation, it was gathered that the gang members claimed to have bought the guns at N35,000.

It was learnt that the alleged gun supplier, Ismaila who claimed to be a site supervisor, had earlier denied selling guns to the gang or knowing them but later changed his statement when he came face-to-face with the suspects. It was gathered that Ismaila told the police that he was using the gun to chase-off anyone who wanted to trespass on other people’s land.

When asked how he came about the guns, he told the police that he bought one from students of a higher institution in Ogun state, who were cult members, while he bought one for the leader of the gang, Lookman Bioku, who was a bus conductor before he joined the gang.

He said was a common thief as a bus conductor but joined a robbery gang due to lack of contentment .

Supol Abba Kyari, the officer-in-charge of SARS said the suspects will be charged to court as soon as police concluded their interrogation.

According to the confessional statement, Lookman Bioku, 22, had no permanent address but was sleeping in hotels.

He staed that he was not introduced to robbery by anybody in particular but he had been stealing since he was a bus conductor.

He reportedly told the police that during the four robbery operations he took parting, the gang made N500,000 and that the three guns the gang was using was procured from ‘Last Born’ at N25,000 per gun.

Another suspect, Lekan Jamiu who resided at Ita Oluwo, Ikorodu, Lagos, claimed to be an uphostery worker before he joined the robbery gang eight months ago.

He confessed that he left his uphostery work due to coveteousness.

The 24-year old said he regretted joining the robbery gang because since his arrest, he had no freedom of movement and had not seen his only child, a little boy.

Dare Johnson, 20, from Osun State, said he dropped out of school in SS3 and also abandoned his printing trade.

In his statement, Ismaila Adebayo a.k.a. Last Born, said he was a land speculator in Ifo area of Ogun State and he was using his gun to scare away intruders from the land of his clients.

He said he was also into block making.

Adebayo claimed that he got the three guns he sold to the robbery gang from a cult member who belonged to the Eiye cult.

He denied killing with his gun.

The female suspect, Aminat Musbau of 8, Kajola Street, Mushin, Lagos, admiktted that the gang leader, Lookmon is her lover. She said they met at Mushin while she introduced him to her sister, the pregnant suspect.

Aminat denied sharing their loot with the suspects. She said Lookmon used to give her N2,000 or N3,000 a week.

She added that Lookmon told her he was a land grabber and a smuggler.

Heavily pregnant 25-year old Adijat Azeez said she sells fruits at Agbado but resides at Ifo, Ogun State.

She admitted knowing the gang leader, Lookmon who was introduced to him by Aminat, a resident of Mushin when she was still befriending Lookmon.

Adijat said she knew Ismaila, the alleged gun supplier, through his brother, a chief in the community, as Omo onile Iland speculator).

She denied being the link between Lookmon and Ismaila.
