A woman, Hadizah Abubakar, has pleaded with the Agege Customary Court, Lagos, to dissolve her marriage of 13 years with Umar Abubakar.
She told the court to grant her the custody of her children.
The mother of four alleged that her husband had absconded from home for about four years.
She said that they had an Islamic marriage (Nikah) in 1999.
The petty trader told the court that before he ran away, Abubakar womanised a lot.
The 33-year-old said that her husband left when she gave birth to her last child and he has never seen the child.
She stated that her parents and business had been supporting her and her family.
She urged the court to dissolve the marriage on the grounds that Abubakar did not care for the family and neither did he call nor send money to them.
Her lawyer, George Usiholo, told the court that they learnt that Abubakar had remarried in Lagos.
He said his client was never taken to see any of her in-laws before or after the marriage.
Usiholo said that Abubakar did not bring his parents to the Nikah but representatives and friends.
The lawyer said Abubakar never took Hadizah to his village, adding that although both of them are Hausa, they came from different villages.
The president of the court, Emmanuel Shokunle, adjourned the case till Oct. 2, 2012
