Despondent woman leaps to her death at a Manhattan subway station

Emergency responders unable to save 34-year-old struck by northbound 2 train.

Train service was disrupted because of the incident.


A despondent women lept to her death Tuesday in front of subway train that was pulling into a Manhattan station, sources said.

The 34-year-old woman was struck at 9:15 a.m. by a northbound 2 train at the W. 14th station at Seventh Ave., MTA officials said.
MTA workers were shaken by the woman’s death.

By the time emergency responders reached her, there was no saving her.

The woman’s name was not released and some of the shaken MTA workers at the scene had tears in their eyes as emergency workers removed her body from the tracks.

In the aftermath, officials shut down both the uptown and downtown 1, 2, and 3 line platforms.
Police have no yet released the identity of the woman.

MTA officials said all 1 and 3 trains were running local between Chambers St. and Times Square, bypassing the W. 14th St. stop.

Officials said 2 trains are running on the 5 train line between Nevins St. in Brooklyn to 149th St. in the Bronx.
