African Nations Cup Qualifier Fallout: How Super Eagles escaped poisoning in Liberia

Nigeria’s Super Eagles draw in Monrovia over the weekend may have come as a shock to her fans back home but it indeed calls for celebration as the Nigerian team escaped being poisoned by their host all in an attempt to edge out the Eagles from the Nations Cup holding in South Africa come 2013.
It all started with the poor accommodation that the Liberian Football Federation had for the Nigerian team which was outrightly rejected as the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF quickly made another arrangement and when the host saw that they had failed in their first bid, they resorted to tempering with the water the team would drink.

The Eagles had camped at the Golden Gate hotel after rejecting the sub standard hotel provided by the liberia fa, the team had to make an alternative arrangement for food through a Nigerian based in Monrovia to forestall any incident. It was gathered however that the Liberians deviced another strategy when they brought the bottled water which was discovered to have been laced with some substance.

The water was kept outside the hotel for hours after the doctor acting on a tip off adviced that the water could not be drank as it would have had adverse effect on the players. A visibly shocked Chairman of the technical committee, Barrister Chris Green who displayed the water outside the hotel expressed shock and disappointment at the antics of the host team. “Can you believe it that those bottles of water were poisoned.

Thank God that we decided not to take the water, otherwise we would have been in serious problem. I cannot believe that people can still be so uncivilized as to this. We have decided to send the water to our embassy who will decide on what to do with it.
