“Oh wow ! This guy/girl has got so many Followers. He must be very popular ” Is that what you think when you see someone having thousands of followers on Twitter? What if we tell you that most of those followers are fake?
It is now a well-known fact that many brands and people now pay money to get hundreds and thousands of followers overnight. Recently, some politicians have been criticized for acquiring astronomical and ridiculous increase in the number of Twitter Followers over a space of days. Last month, GOP Presidential candidate, Mitt Romney’s number of followers jumped by more than 100,000 in one weekend. The Romney campaign has denied it bought followers. Campaigners for Newt Gingrich, who ran against Romney for the Republican nomination, denied that he paid for any of his 1.3 million-strong Twitter following.
One site called Fiverr is offering 1,000 Twitter followers for $5 while other sites include InterTwitter.com, BuyTwitterFollow.com and FanMeNow.com, selling Twitter followers by the thousands. Some also sell “likes” on Facebook and “views” on YouTube views. Wow! I need to invest in those now. Lol.
One thing I find really brilliant and funny is the disclaimer by STATUS PEOPLE which states thus: “We take no responsibility or liability for any upset or perceived damage that this site may cause you, financial or otherwise. If you have purchased fake followers and this site reveals that fact to the wider World that is your problem. Not ours.” Hahaha…..hilarious.
