Police arrest men over human skull in Ogun
The Ogun State Police Command on Tuesday paraded two men for allegedly exhuming a human skull around the Sabo area of the state capital, Abeokuta.
Parading the suspects, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ikemefuna Okoye, alleged that the suspects committed the offence at about 12 a.m. on Tuesday, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.
“At about 1200 hours, we got information about somebody who was digging a grave and we swung into action.
“He never knew that eagle eyes were watching him in the process of removing the corpse.
“We apprehended him immediately he severed the head from the body and he told us that it was one pastor(name withheld) that sent him,” he said.
Okoye said the suspects would be charged to court as soon as investigation into the matter was concluded.
The commissioner, who urged residents of the state to go about their normal business without fear, sought their cooperation for effective policing.
He said anyone with useful information that could lead to the arrest of criminals in the state should make it available to the command, adding that the identity of informants would be shielded.
Speaking with newsmen, one of the suspects who confessed to the crime, attributed his action to the nation’s economic situation.
“I used to work on the pastor’s site but he said I will make more money if I can get him human skull. I felt it was an easy way of making money, that was why I did it.
“I am surprised he is denying this when he was the actual person that taught me how to go about it, ” he said.
But dismissing the allegation by the first suspect, the other suspect, who claimed to be a pastor, said he never sent him to commit the act.
“I am a man of God and pastor. I heal people with God’s name and not with human skull.
“He is just telling lies and I do not know what I have done to him. Only God can save me now,” he said.
