Empire Mates singer-rapper, Skales (Raoul John Njeng) recently featured on the ongoing Supermom reality TV show where he revealed his experiences growing up.
The 19-year-old along with his mother, Mrs Njeng told the story of their survival after being abandoned by their bread winner while Skales was barely 10. The separation changed the course of their lives as the once comfortable mother and child became destitute.
According to Skales, his mother resorted to different menial jobs and petty trading during the day, while passing their nights in an abandoned garage.
This trend, Skales says, continued until luck smiled on them and they found a shelter.
‘She sold sugar cane, bread and did menial jobs in people’s but she gave me the best of everything I needed’, he says.
Speaking on her reaction when he decided on music as a career, Skales says his mother was in total support; describing her as his greatest fan.
Skales is presently signed on the Empire Mates Entertainment music label and although yet to release an album, has few hit tracks to his credit.
