Tragic leap ... man falls to his death in Yangtze river
THIS is the chilling moment a cameraman unwittingly caught a suicidal lover jumping to his death, shortly before his girlfriend also plunged into the icy river far below.
The couple are believed to have made a suicide pact before leaping from the Wuhan Bridge
over China's Yangtze river,
as tourists posed for snaps on the crossing unaware of the tragedy just behinid them.
The boyfriend's shocking plunge was accidentally captured on film by a newspaper
photographer who had been taking
shots of thick fog around the bridge.
The journalist said: “I didn’t realise at first that I had snapped the man jumping to his death. It
was only then I heard
someone shout that somebody had jumped.
“I heard him hit the water below and then seconds later a woman climbed onto the bridge and
jumped as well.”
Possessions left behind on the bridge identified the man as 20-year-old migrant worker Liu
Han.
Liu’s uncle later told police his nephew was struggling to make a living.
Police have not recovered any bodies and a spokesman added it is "extremely unlikely” the
couple will be found alive.
