Obasanjo Set For Showdown With Jonathan Over Alams Pardon

The pardon granted former governor of Bayelsa State, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, by the Goodluck Jonathan led administration may deepen the crisis between President Jonathan and his benefactor, former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

A credible source disclosed that Obasanjo, having known the shameful agenda of the meeting of the National Council of State, where the pardon was granted, decided to stay away in protest.

Recall that it was during the regime of Obasanjo that the former governor was impeached from office, arrested, prosecuted and convicted for corruption. President Jonathan, who was deputy to Alamiesyeseigha, became the governor when his boss was removed from office.

The conviction of the former governor remains the major achievement of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, which was established by the regime of former President Obasanjo. Several billions of Naira and property were recovered. The EFCC was then headed by Mallam Nuhu Ribadu.

Olufamous.com gathered that Obasanjo and those close to him, including some ex-Generals, are very angry with the action of Jonathan and that it would be hard for them to work with the President in future. My source said Jonathan's action might just be the last straw with regards to the 2015 elections.
