Smiles ... The Duchess of Cambridge at tube station
THE Duchess of Cambridge joined hundreds of expectant mothers on the tube today by wearing a ‘Baby on Board’ badge.
Kate — who still looks slim at five months pregnant — joined the Queen and Prince Philip at Baker Street station to celebrate the London Underground’s 150th anniversary. And her burgeoning baby bump was clearly on show as she was presented with the pin badge by an official on the platform.
The cute accessories are a growing trend among pregnant workers in the capital — as they are seen as an easy way for other commuters to recognise them and offer up a seat.
Fortunately for Kate, the trains had already been emptied out for the Royal visit, so her new signage wasn’t required.
The outing was the Queen’s first public event in over a week but she showed no sign of suffering from the gastroenteritis that has caused her other visits to be called off.
The Royal party were shown around the station before inspecting the brand new trains due to be rolled out across 40% of the network.
Her Majesty looked stylish in a cream straight-cut coat and floral hat, while the Princess was demure in a teal coat and black beret.
All the Royals were given special Oyster cards to mark their visit.
As they passed through the barriers, Kate joked with an official about using the pre-paid smart cards, saying she could “swipe my Oyster”.
The Queen’s first journey on the Underground was back in 1939 when she ws just 13 years old.
And her most recent visit was in February 2010 to view a memorial plaque to the victims of the 7/7 attacks at Aldgate Station.
