BREAKING NEWS!!!Stephen Keshi has reportedly withdrawn his resignation
Stephen Keshi has reportedly withdrawn his resignation after a meeting Sports Minister Bolaji Abdullahi.
Last night (Monday) Keshi met for hours with Abdullahi and, after the
meeting, the Minister claimed that the issue had been resolved.
"I have spoken to Stephen and the NFF President Aminu Maigari and
apparently there were issues that weren't handled properly," Abdullahi
said. "But what I can tell you now is that the issue has been resolved
and Keshi is staying on."
Abdullahi, however, said he spoke to
Maigari before going into his meeting with Keshi. All three are on the
same chartered flight taking the team to Abuja, but Keshi and most NFF
officials avoided each other all the way to boarding.
Abdullahi admits that some friction remains, but says there will be time to resolve all that.
"This is not the time for that. For now we have resolved the issue and
he will be staying. After the reception we will sit down and sort things
out. Obviously, there are certain things that weren't handled properly,
but we will have plenty of time to sort them out."
A source
close to Keshi said the coach had endured months of undue interference
especially from the head of NFF’s technical committee, Chris Green. It
has also been reported in some mediums that Chris Green was already
talking to at least three white coaches to take over from Keshi
including Chipolopolo coach, Herve Renard.
Hence, Keshi's
resignation move was an attempt to force the issue and bring his plight
to the attention of the Presidency. According to the source, "it would
seem that he wants direct access to the president and also he wants the
NFF off his back. The same kind of politics Westerhof played in 1990s
when he i.e. Westerhof had direct access to deputy head of state Rear
Admiral Augustus Aikhomu."
