Under the influence? ... Bobbi Kristina and foster brother Nick Gordon smoking a suspicious roll-up on Friday
WHITNEY HOUSTON’S anguished loved ones watched her life unravel for years — and now they are looking on helplessly as her beloved daughter spins out of control.
On Friday, Bobbi Kristina was pictured shopping in Atlanta, Georgia, with boyfriend and foster brother Nick Gordon. The pair were seen hugging and kissing — and sharing a suspicious-looking roll-up as they returned to their car with their purchase.
Bobbi was just 18 when her superstar mum was found dead in a Beverly Hills hotel bathtub one year ago tomorrow.
Since then — to the horror of family members — she has become engaged to Nick, fought a bitter legal battle over her mum’s cash and reportedly turned to drugs and alcohol.
And now, in the most worrying move of all, the 19-year-old — already estranged from dad Bobby Brown — has cut grandma Cissy Houston out of her life.
Whitney’s 79-year-old mother was regarded as the most steadying influence on Bobbi’s life.
But they are no longer on speaking terms and this week the teenager went public to slam Cissy’s new book about Whitney, tweeting: “I find it 2B disrespect 2 my mother and me being her daughter won’t tolerate it.”
She also said the elderly widow was “oblivious” and “out of line wrong” in the seething message.
Friends and relatives are now terrified for Bobbi’s future away from her gran’s influence.
Pastor and close family friend Jerome Bell, who had known Whitney before she became famous, last night said he feared the youngster’s life could be in danger.
The 51-year-old told The Sun: “I do worry, I really pray for her.
“When you’re at that age and you’re separated from your family, the sky’s the limit to what negativity could befall you.
“When you have that kind of attitude and you disrespect your grandmother and other family members you’re already going the wrong way. The attitude worries me.”
But he added that the blame laid with others, who have used Bobbi’s grief and confusion to lead her astray.
He said: “People can take advantage of you when you’ve disconnected yourself from your family and that’s my concern.
“I’m certain that it’s because of people around her. She’s at a very impressionable age.
“When you are so endowed and blessed financially as she has become, it can be a very dangerous combination.
“This is not the time to separate from your family — this is the time when she should be getting closer.
“The family are all hurting together. We just want to see her turn it around.”
Top of the pastor’s list of bad influences on Bobbi — who is known as Krissy to the family — is Nick Gordon.
Now 23, the wannabe reality TV star was unofficially adopted by Whitney when he was 12, after his father was sent to prison and his mother could not cope.
He was brought up in the family home in Atlanta, Georgia, alongside only child Bobbi — just eight when her new “big brother” moved in.
Nick was seen as “the man of the house” after Whitney split up from wild R&B singer Bobby Brown — instrumental in getting the Grammy winner hooked on drugs — in 2006.
Weeks after Whitney, 48, accidentally drowned in the bath of her Beverly Hilton hotel room in Los Angeles after taking a cocktail of prescribed and illegal substances, the pair hooked up as a couple.
They even got engaged last year, announcing the news on their ill-advised US reality TV show The Houstons: On Our Own — to the dismay of the rest of the family.
The relationship caused the first signs of friction with Cissy, who reportedly called their fling “incestuous” and kicked Nick out of the family home.
Bobbi and Nick — who has had several run-ins with police — split up in November.
Days later, devastated Bobbi was lucky to walk away from a nasty car crash when she smashed up her sports car near her Georgia apartment.
Hours later Nick was arrested for reckless driving after he was caught doing 82mph in a 35mph zone.
His car’s stereo system was blasting out Whitney’s classic ballad I Will Always Love You when he was pulled over.
But the pair are now believed to have rekindled their romance and Bobbi’s furious tweet about Cissy’s book noted that Nick was angry about it too.
Concerned pastor Jerome, who runs a Christian Centre in Maryland where he will lead a prayer for the Houston family at his service today, said of the pair’s relationship: “It doesn’t seem healthy.
“If he is not helping her to restore or communicate with her grandmother, it can’t be good.
“When the time comes for Cissy to be called home that’s going to be a tremendous void.
“Bobbi Kristina is heading for major regret if she does not repair this. She needs to spend time with her grandmother so that they can participate in each other’s healing.”
Last month, Cissy admitted she was concerned Bobbi could go the same way as Whitney.
The former soul singer, who used to perform back-up vocals for Elvis Presley and Aretha Franklin, said: “Of course I worry about her.
“Bobbi Kristina is 19, and if you know anything about a 19-year-old, they think they know it all.”
Cissy’s desperation to keep Bobbi on the straight and narrow was behind the pair’s court battle over the teenager’s inheritance.
Bobbi is the sole beneficiary of Whitney’s £13million estate and last October Cissy and fellow trustees began a legal battle to control her access to the fortune.
In court documents, Cissy claimed the youngster is a target for “those who would exert undue influence over her inheritance”.
But Bobbi appears to have won that legal fight and will receive ten per cent of the estate when she turns 21, 20 per cent at 25 and the remaining amount when she turns 30.
However, not all of her family and inner circle are condemning Bobbi or her relationship with Nick.
Whitney’s cousin Damon Elliott, 39, has nothing but sympathy for Bobbi.
The music producer, who is the son of Whitney’s superstar aunt Dionne Warwick, said: “She’s a teenager trying to deal with the death of her mother and move on and live a legacy and continue a legacy.
“It’s extraordinarily tough for her. Nothing’s going to tear our family apart. As long as you have faith we can overcome anything.
“Whether or not we all agree with what certain family members do at certain times, that’s part of family.”
And on her controversial relationship with Nick and its effect on other family members, he said: “It’s none of their business — she’s happy.
“If that’s what makes her happy then you should be happy that she’s happy.”
