Two love birds named Jessica and Kenny are set to get married without ever meeting face to face.
This couple is out to prove they can go the distance.
Two love birds named Jessica and Kenny are set to get married without ever meeting face to face. They fell in love online through a foreign language-learning website last year.
Jessica, an 18-year-old from Brazil, had listed that she wanted to learn English and Dutch, but was initially skeptical when Kenny, 23, reached out to her from Belgium to talk.
But he quickly convinced her, and she soon fell in love with him from afar and hey haven’t stopped talking since. She even finds herself “sleeping with the webcam on.”
“Laughing and talking about everything and nothing, we started knowing more and more of each other,” she wrote last month on “Love9000km Away,” the couple’s blog chronicling their relationship.
Kenny proposed to Jessica by photographing himself holding up a series of signs.
“Friendship grew and willingness to spend more time together too, until the day he taught me the meaning of IK HOU VAN JOU (I love you).”
And this week they took their long-distance love to the next level, getting engaged over the Internet, though they won’t meet in person until October 3, when Kenny is set to fly to Brazil to spend 10 days with Jessica.
The couple had openly talked about marriage before, with Jessica posting a series of viral video proposals she liked to help Kenny “get inspired.”
He posted a public proposal to his girlfriend in a series of images on the blog, holding up signs that read “I want to marry you Jessica” to surprise her when she woke up.
Jessica accepted the proposal virtually with the help of some friends.
She, in turn, responded with a video to accept - featuring Brazilians holding up signs saying “She will marry you Kenny.”
Jessica got her wish to go viral - after a post profiling the couple appeared on the Huffington Post, they were flooded with new attention, and said they were thrilled to share their engagement with the world.
“Except for my dad,” she joked. “He’ll kill Kenny.”
The love birds acknowledge things are a little different when a relationship is completely virtual, but say their connection is seriously strong.
Kenny mastered the art of the long distance relationship.
“Kissing isn’t the same when it’s not lips against lips, but we do kiss each other goodnight using webcam,” they wrote on the blog. “We’re there for each other to talk about anything that happens in life. the good and the bad.”
“Real love doesn’t always have to be close,” Kenny said in another post. “Sometimes the person that is perfect to u is little seperated [sic] from you...But with all the technology, flights getting cheaper, all is possible.”
Even a virtual relationship isn’t problem-free. The pair have documented a few of their fights on the blog as well - but they say they’re in it for the long haul.
“When you really love someone that much you’ll find a way to be together as much as possible,” he wrote.
