Suspect’s friend says he meant no harm — believes he ‘snapped’ after death of baby daughter.
After falling out of one car and getting hit by another, the man allegedly tried to abduct a 1-month-old baby girl from the backseat of her parents’ car.A drugged-up lunatic managed to get himself into three kinds of trouble on one stretch of Kansas City road.
He was high on PCP when he fell out of a moving car Saturday afternoon near Interstate 70, said cops, who didn’t release the man’s name.
On the pavement, he was run over by another car, WDAF-TV reported.
He got up, apparently badly injured, as several cars stopped to see if he needed help.
“It looked like he was dead on the road, like flat and everything,” said Sara Morris, who pulled over.
That’s when he staggered over to Morris’ car, opened the back door and tried to abduct her 1-month-old baby daughter Emily.
Dad Matthew Nicotra struggled with the suspect, who was high on PCP, according to police.
“He was just trying to grab her out of the backseat and I got out and grabbed him and told him ‘let go of my daughter!’” dad Matthew Nicotra recalled.
The man was taken to a local hospital, and could be charged with attempted child abduction. Baby Emily wasn’t hurt in the struggle.
Sara Morris said the man looked “dead on the road” after he was run over.
A friend of the suspect’s told WDAF that he is fighting for custody of his two other children after his own baby daughter died about a month ago.
His daughter’s mother and her boyfriend are facing charges after the boyfriend admitted to throwing the little girl against a wall.
“It’s been a very traumatic, hard experience for him,” Amy Maurer said. “But by no means was he trying to cause harm to this child. When he saw that baby, he snapped.”
But Morris said the tragedy gave the man “no right to grab my child at all.”
