Robbers Attack Bank, Police Station

Tension enveloped most parts of Ilorin, the Kwara state capital including the State Police Command Headquarters Wednesday as news of armed robbery attack on an old generation bank in Share, Ifelodun local government as well as an attack on a police station in the area spread to the town.


Eye witness account said that the robbers attacked the bank at about 12:30 pm with sophisticated weapons and made efforts to enter the strong room.

When the police at a station in the area were alerted and a team of police officers and men were drafted to the scene, there was a gun battle with the robbers.

The State Police Command Headquarters deployed anti-riot policemen and an armoured personnel carrier stationed close to its entrance.

A reliable source at the police command told in our correspondent that the police station was attacked and the gunmen and police officers exchanged gun fire while two vehicles were recovered from the bandits.

Though the source did not disclose whether there was casualty, he confirmed that the police station was badly attacked and investigation was still going on

In his reaction, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, of the Kwara state police command, ASP Olufemi Fabode, disclosed that he had not gathered all the facts about the incident but promised to brief the press on Thursday after the command had completed its investigation.
