LAGOS—Police in Lagos State said, weekend, that they have taken into custody three friends who were allegedly caused the death of their friend, Quadri Onolapo, said to have been pushed into the Lagos Lagoon.
Vanguard gathered that the suspects, identified as Godwin Omoshere, Orimisan Adebule and Ojo Faro, were arrested after some persons who witnessed the 18-year-old man being pushed from a jetty at Iwaya-Sabo into the Lagoon, reported the incident to the police at Sabo Police Station.
A police source, who craves anonymity, told Vanguard that Onolapo and his friends might have been involved in a bitter argument, which led to his death.
The source said: “The report we got from people at the scene was that the three suspects and the deceased were friends and on that they were seen having a heated quarrel over what we are yet to establish. After some time, they started fighting, then Onolapo was pushed into the lagoon.
“It seems like Onaolapo could not swim. He drowned as nobody could rescue him.”
While confirming the report, the spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command, DSP, Ngozi Braide, said Onolapo’s corpse is yet to be recovered, adding that the suspects will be charged to court for murder.
Meanwhile, policemen attached to Ketu Division in Lagos, weekend, arrested two suspected members of a robbery gang said to be specialists in snatching vehicles outside the state and selling them at give-away prices in Lagos.
The suspects were reportedly arrested, while driving in a Mitsubushi Gallant car. The car was said to have been stopped for a search by the policemen, who were on patrol.
During preliminary investigation, spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, Ngozi Braide, said the occupants confessed to have snatched the vehicle with number plate EM 279 FST from its owner in Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State.
