A WOMAN killed a man by injecting his penis with a fatal dose of liquid silicone, a court has heard. Kasia Rivera, 35, is accused of performing the botched penis enlargement operation on 22-year-old Justin Street with no medical licence or training.
Father-of-two Justin went to Rivera's apartment on May 5, 2011 for the operation, a service which she advertised in fliers posted in local businesses, prosecutors say.
But Street died the following day from a silicone embolism, the US court in New Jersey heard. Rivera, who faces up to ten years in prison if convicted, has pleaded not guilty to reckless manslaughter.
Investigators believe she may have conducted other similar unauthorized procedures out of her apartment in East Orange, near New York, but other clients are yet to come forward.
Rivera, who is free on bail, appeared in court yesterday [Sep 11] morning in a pattern red jacket and black dress. From her pronounced features, Rivera appears to have either performed cosmetic injections on herself or received them from someone.
She stood silently for the brief arraignment in Superior Court in Newark, and later refused a reporter’s request for comment. Her public defender, Danica Rue, told the judge she had not received Street’s autopsy photographs, and was also missing a compact disk containing the statement her client had given to police.
Kasia Rivera, seen during a December arraignment, pleaded not guilty
yesterday morning in a Newark court to second-degree reckless manslaughter
“The state is not alleging at all that she purposely caused his death, but that her behaviour, her acting with no training, no preparation led to his death", prosecutor, William Neafsey said.
Neafsey said after the hearing, referring to the charges against Rivera - “Performing this type of procedure, basically a surgical procedure on him without any proper training or certificates, that’s why it’s reckless”.
No one else is charged in the case and despite a request from the prosecutor’s office for anyone who may have received similar injections from Rivera to step forward, no one has.
Rivera remains free on $75,000 bail, and will appear in court next on Oct. 2.
Anything injected into the penis goes directly into the blood stream and can result in a painful death. Liquid silicone is sought on the black market by women seeking to enhance their figures, even though it is not approved for cosmetic injections.
Substances such as paraffin, petroleum jelly and hydrogel have also been used illegally to enlarge women’s breasts, hips and buttocks.
