Man defrauds boss of N.1m lotto money

A 30-year-old man, Rashidi Shobayo, of 56, Mafoluku Road, Oshodi, Lagos has been accused of stealing N103,000 belonging to his boss, Mr. Akeem Abey.

The money was said to be proceeds from the sale of lotto tickets.

Abey reported the case to the police and the suspect has been charged before an Oshodi Customary Court.

The charge against Shobayo says that sometime in June, 2012, Shobayo, a sales boy, sold one week lotto tickets worth N103, 000 without the consent of his master.

Several efforts to get Shobayo after the sale proved abortive, the court was told.

It was stated that the accused had his sister, known simply as Iya khadijat, as guarantor after making the sales. He subsequently fled.

However, when the accused appeared in court, he claimed to live at 11, Liadi Street, off Offin Road, Lagos Island, adding that he was currently a building contractor.

He, nonetheless, agreed that he collected the sum, which is the subject matter of the case.

He said, “After one week, I collected one winning ticket worth N48,000 and I paid the winner with part of the money but later discovered that it was a fake ticket. The remaining N54,000, I used it to play game.”

The case has been adjourned till Sept. 24, 2012 for further hearing.
