Heard the one about the 15-year-old girl who drove a $305,000 Lamborghini to her Texas high school?

Hot wheels: A 15-year-old girl near Dallas showed up to school with a Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Super Trofeo Stradale
There are only 150 Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Super Trofeo Stradales in the world, making it one of the rarest cars on the road.

And with a price tag of more than $300,000, it hardly seems surprising why.

But for one 15-year-old girl in Dallas, it is just her transportation of choice on the daily commute to and from school.

According to Jalopnik, which first reported the story, the fire-engine red Gallardo belongs to a friend of the owner of Top Speed, a luxury car performance shop in Texas.

That man is dating a woman with an 18-year-old son and a 15-year-old daughter, who attends Hebron High School in Carrollton, Texas.

Rarity: The Italian car is one of the rarest in the world with only 150 in existence; this is #123

George LaFleur, marketing and promotions for Top Speed, told MailOnline that the owner has a ‘collection of high-end exotics,’ and gives his girlfriend’s children permission to drive them.

The story first gained heat on link-sharing site Reddit, when a girl claimed that one of her classmates showed up in the rare Italian vehicle earlier this week, posting pictures to back up her story.

Even in the affluent school district, it would seem that this particular vehicle attracted a flurry of attention.

Asked if it was illegal for a 15-year-old to get behind the wheel, Mr LaFleur said: ‘It’s pretty open in Texas.

'If a kid wants to drive,' he said, 'and the parent wants them to drive, it’s as simple as the parent signing the permission slip at the DMV.’

On loan: The car belongs to the 15-year old girl's mother's boyfriend, who is a collector of high-end exotics

The 15-year-old student typically drives a BMW M3, he said, as well as her mother’s boyfriends Ferrari 458 ‘regularly enough.’

Both the Lamborghini Gallardo and the Ferrari retail around $300,000.

He said there is no problem with insurance. ‘As far of the owner of his car,’ Mr LaFleur said, ‘if it was a one-time deal or a rare occasion with permission, (the insurance company) would be fine with it.’

Mr LaFleur said that it’s not uncommon to see the student’s area of the parking lot full of luxury cars, from Audis, BMWs, Lexus’s, and Hummers.

He said he knew of one student who received an H1 Hummer for his 16th birthday.

In general, he said, ‘there are a lot of parents with more money than brain cells in this area,’ though he emphasised that the friend of Top Speed is not among them.

House of learning: The girl attends Hebron High School in Carrollton, Texas, an area known for its affluence

The Gallardo LP570-4 Super Trofeo Stradale retails at $305,000, packs a powerful punch with 570 horsepower, and goes from zero to 60mph in 3.4 seconds.
