Florida mom facing welfare fraud charges kills two young sons, hangs herself

Police said Dawn Brown killed her two sons, 9-year-old Zander and 5-year-old Zayden, before hanging herself from a ceiling fan with an electrical cord.

A Florida mom killed her two young sons before hanging herself with an electrical cord tied to a ceiling fan, cops said.

Dawn Brown, 34, and her two boys — identified by a friend of the family as 5-year-old Zayden and 9-year-old Zander — were found dead Saturday in their Clearwater home, the Tampa Tribune reported.

Her husband Murphy, 36, came home to the horrifying scene early in the morning. He sent family friend William Lavold a text message that “basically said that his wife killed his children and he needed my help," Lavold said.

Just days earlier, Dawn Brown pleaded not guilty to a charge of welfare fraud stemming from an arrest last year.

Lavold said the arrest was “ground zero” for her life falling apart.

“Up until then, everything was perfect,” he said. “She had a great life planned ahead of her.”

Those plans included becoming a schoolteacher, but she stopped taking classes to stay at home with her sons.
