The birth of triplets by Nigeria’s first Olympic gold medallist, Chioma Ajunwa Okpara, has been generating controversies since she was said to be delivered of the kids.
The controversies surrounding the birth of the triplets were compounded following the Divisional Police Officer’s decision to stay away from the public after she was delivered of a set of triplets, two boys and a girl.
Her fans and friends, who were happy that she was eventually blessed with a set of triplets after many years of being childless, have not been able to reach her or celebrate with her.
Considering Ajunwa’s popularity as athletic heroine, even her fans on social network site, Facebook have been congratulating her. One of them is Nollywood star actress turned pastor, Eucharia Anunobi who posted thus on her Facebook status: “This God is too much! Join me to rejoice for He has done it again. My sister and Auntie, Mrs. Chioma Ajunwa Okpara, Nigeria’s first Olympic gold medallist has just been delivered of triplets after years of waiting on the Lord.”
Since Ajunwa was reported to have been delivered of the babies, she has not surfaced in any public place. Sources at the Meiran Police Station where she is the DPO, toldP.M.NEWS that she was on maternity leave.
But those who saw her two months before she was reportedly delivered of the babies claimed there was no sign that she was pregnant.
This however caused speculations that she might have adopted the kids.
Efforts to speak with Ajunwa as at the time of filing this report proved abortive as her whereabouts and the hospital where she gave birth to the triplets were unknown.
Her continued silence has stirred controversies and she also failed to pick her calls.
Chioma, who is about 48 years old, became a celebrity when in 1996 at the Atlanta Olympics in the US, she won a gold medal for Nigeria in the long jump.
She was promoted to the rank of Chief Superintendent of Police, CSP. She has served the Nigeria Police in different divisions before her posting to Meiran Division in Lagos in May this year as the DPO.
Chioma was recognised by the Federal Government of Nigeria with the national honour of Member, Order of the Niger, MON.
She is also a titled chief at Ogbe-Ahiara in Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State, Southeast Nigeria.
She wedded Pastor Okpara, who is the pastor in charge of Chapel of Destiny Restoration Church, Lagos, about eight years ago. But the family had been looking for the fruit of the womb since then.
Her admirers who wanted to visit Chioma at home to congratulate her were more confused because nobody knows exactly where she lives. While some of them believe she resides around Meiran, others think she lives in Festac.
Weeks after the reported birth of the triplets, no one has seen them, their mother or seen their photographs, thus making Chioma’s teeming admirers confused.
