THE Ebonyi State Police Command at the weekend, arrested a 10-year-old boy for allegedly trying to force open the door of a Mercedes Benz car, parked along Awka street in Abakaliki, the state capital.
Parading the suspect before newsmen at the command headquarters, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, ASP Sylvester Igbo, said that luck ran out of the suspect, when the owner of the car, on sighting the boy trying to open the vehicle door, raised an alarm resulting in the intervention of passersby and the subsequent arrest of the suspect.
According to the PPRO, the suspect, whose name was given as Toochukwu Otuu, admitted committing the crime when interrogated by investigating police officers.
ASP Igbo said: “It was when the suspect was caught in the act that he confessed that he was sent by one Mr Oluchukwu who was based in Enugu, the capital of Enugu State”.
The police image maker said the guardian of the boy disclosed that the suspect had been involved in stealing people’s property and had earlier been taken to a spiritual healing home for cleansing.
Igbo said that the command was on the trail of the suspected two-man gang, who allegedly introduced the suspect to car theft, saying that the suspect was now in police custody, and will be charged to court at the end of investigation.
