A woman holding her four-year-old son accidentally stepped straight off the subway platform in Boston and right onto the tracks!

A Boston woman and her four-year-old boy are lucky to be alive after falling onto the subway tracks at Kendall Station in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

The woman, not realizing where she was going, accidentally stepped off the platform believing there was a train, but instead fell four feet off the platform and onto the tracks.

“The mother explained that she had seen a train at the northbound platform and believed she could board it,” Joe Pesaturo, a spokesman for the Greater Boston transport system, MBTA, said, according to the Daily Mail.

“She was looking straight ahead and apparently did not see the pit or the southbound tracks below.”

Two bystanders rushed to the rescue, risking their lives and jumping onto the platform to push the woman and her son up to safety.

The woman was also most worried that her son had hit his head, Joe said. They were not seen to have any visible injuries, but were rushed to the hospital to be examined.

Joe also added the two are extremely lucky. They could have been hurt by an oncoming train, or by the third rail on the tracks, which has 600 volts running through it.

“The bystanders’ quick response is worthy of praise, but it’s also important that the public remember that the subway’s third rail is electrified,” he said.

“It’s always best to immediately notify an MBTA employee so that we can alert nearby train crews and shut off the power to the third rail as soon as possible.”

We are so happy everyone is safe.
