Furupagha, who allegedly collected between N200, 000 and N300, 000 from his victims, ran out of luck as he was arrested by officers from 3 Battalion, of 4 Brigade Nigeria, deployed in Asaba, Delta State.
Army Public Relation Officer for the area, Capt Roselyn Managbe, said the arrest of the fake army lieutenant was made possible when an officer was sent to pose as a prospective applicant after the formation got calls from residents about Furupagha activiries.
She said, “The fake lieutenant demanded for the sum of N200,000 from him to be recruited into the Army. Our man pleaded with the fake officer to collect N100,000. While this was going on troops, who were alerted came and arrested the fake army lieutenant, Mr. Goodluck Furupagha at Ibusa Road, Asaba.
“Goodluck who confessed to the crime said he had duped several persons over the years on the pretext of helping them to join the army.”
The army PRO said six copies of army e-recruitment forms, passports, two copies of Navy e-form, six copies of Nigerian Army Direct Short Service Commission, on-line application forms, passports and documents were also recovered from the suspect.
The Commander 4 Brigade, Maj-Gen. Abel Umahi, assured the public that everything was being done to rid “our area-Bayelsa, Delta and Edo states-of bad guys.”
Umahi also appealed to members of the public to avail security agents with information that would assist in the fight against criminality.
