The suspects, both 28 years old, are National Diploma students of the polytechnic and were arrested by the police with the cooperation of members of Igboogun Community on 19 August.
The suspects, according to the police, were members of a five-man gang that had terrorized motorists on Ijan-Ado-Ekiti road in recent time.
They were alleged to have barricaded the road at a spot in Igbologun village, Ado-Ekiti, when the villagers sent a distress call to the police and, at the same time, challenged the suspects.
Items recovered from them, according to a statement made available to newsmen by the Public Relations Officer of the command, Mr Victor Babayemi, included two locally made single barrel pistols, five rounds of live cartridges, three expended cartridges and masks.
The statement commended the bravery and cooperation of members of the community and urged others to emulate the act.
It reiterated the command’s resolve to protect lives and property of citizens, adding that nothing would be spared to ensure that Ekiti became a no-go area for criminals. (NAN)
