In two separate attacks, unidentified gunmen killed two brothers in Michika, Adamawa state and two villagers in Plateau state.
In the Michika attack, one other person, a brother of the two slain brothers was injured critically.
Confirming the Michika attack, on Thursday in Yola, the spokesman of the Adamawa State Police Command, DSP. Ibrahim Mohammed, said the incident occurred on Wednesday when the three brothers were closing their shop for the day.
“The three persons shot were brothers. Two died while the third is now in hospital,” Mohammed said, disclosing that another yet to be identified person, was also killed the same day in Michika.
He, however, confirmed the arrest of some suspects in Mubi by a joint police/military patrol team.
“Some arrests were made in Mubi but I cannot give you the details in order not to jeopardise on-going investigations”, Mohammed said.
There have been various gun attacks in Mubi with the latest taking place on Sallah day when gunmen stormed the house of the Chairman of the Mubi North Local Government Council, Alhaji Sahabo Jauro, killing two of his visitors and dispossessing the rest of their money and handsets.
Jauro whose predecessor, Alhaji Umaru Tafida, was killed in a similar attack two years ago escaped unhurt.
In Plateau state, the killing of the villagers was pinned on Fulani herdsmen, who on Thursday invaded Sho, a mainly Christian village.
“The two men were ambushed on their way from the farm where they had gone to fetch firewood and shot dead,” state police spokesman Abuh Emmanuel told AFP.
He said no arrest has been made following the incident in Sho village, near the flashpoint city of Jos, the state capital
Head of a Jos-based NGO, Stefanos Foundation, Mark Lipdo said the assailants also destroyed some farmlands during the attack.
“They came into the village with their guns shooting at villagers. One villager was injured in the leg,” he added.
Plateau state falls in Nigeria’s so-called “Middle Belt”, where the mainly Christian south meets the majority Muslim north, and has been the site of waves of sectarian violence in recent years.
The area has also been attacked by the Islamist group Boko Haram in recent months, leaving dozens dead.
