Shocked TV viewers watch as 'robber' is shot dead by cops live on air after car chase

TV viewers were shocked on Friday when Los Angeles police shot dead a suspect during a car chase, a horrific scene that was broadcast live on television. The incident began early on Friday when a man, who has not been identified, allegedly held up a Saugus Bank of America shortly after 9 a.m.He fled in a Chevy SUV and was chased by police throughout Los Angeles, with the chase being broadcast live by KCAL-TV. But as Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies pursued the suspected bank robber, he began shooting at police and then the sheriff's deputies returned fire.

The suspect was killed.
The incident on Friday comes shortly after FOX News suffered an embarrassment when it showed a suspect being pursued by police, who shot himself in the head in their coverage of a police pursuit during Shepard Smith's show on September 28.
Though FOX was supposed to have a five second time delay, producers failed to cut out before the man committed suicide - much to the horror of daytime TV viewers.
Smith issued an effusive apology for allowing the shocking scene to air.
'While we were taking that car chase and showing it to you live, when the guy pulled over and got out of the vehicle, we went on delay, so that we would see what happened five seconds before you did, so that if anything went horribly wrong, we’d be able to cut away from it without subjecting you to it.'
