Dallas Wiens, 27, recently popped the question to Jamie Nash, who was severely burned in a near-fatal car accident in 2010.
And in a bid to show that they have put the past behind them, the couple are planning to tie the knot at the Ridglea Baptist Church in Fort Worth, where Mr Wiens' horrific electrical accident took place four years ago.
Set to wed: Dallas Wiens, who was first person in the U.S. to receive a full-face transplant, recently popped the question to fellow burn patient Jamie Nash
He told NBC News: 'There's no reason to dwell on the past.'
While Miss Nash, from Garland, Texas, added: 'It's dead and gone, It burned in the fire.'
The couple have set a date for March 30, 2013, and their doctors and nurses are invited.
Mr Wiens' features burned away and he was left blind after his head touched a high-voltage power line while painting the Ridglea Baptist Church in November 2008.
He received a new nose, lips, skin, muscle and nerves from an anonymous donor, and has had more than 38 surgeries.
Looking to the future: Mr Wiens took Miss Nash to a jewelry store to propose
However the transplant, which was paid for by the U.S. military, was unable to restore his sight, and some nerves were so badly damaged from his injury that he has partial sensation on his left cheek and the left side of his forehead.
Describing the first moment she locked eyes on him at the Parkland Hospital in Dallas, Miss Nash said: 'I just looked at him from across the room, and there was something about him'.
Mr Wiens, who was previously married but filed for divorce before his accident in November 2008, said he wasn't interested in getting into a relationship at first.
Before and after: Mr Wiens is seen with his daughter Scarlett before his horrific accident in 2008, left, and right, after suffering life-threatening burns
He explained: 'I had sworn off love and relationships. I had no desire to be in one whatsoever.'
However after Miss Nash from Garland, Texas, relentlessly pursued him for two months, he finally gave in and on Christmas eve they set a date.
They went for dinner and a movie, and they say that they have been together every day since.
Miss Nash joked: 'I told him it's got to be love, because I'm not sick of you. I know I've never felt more real than this.'
Mr Wiens, who has a daughter called Scarlett, recently decided to take their relationship to the next level and took Miss Nash to a jewelry store to propose.
All in the past: The couple are planning to tie the knot at the Ridglea Baptist Church in Fort Worth, where Mr Wiens' horrific electrical accident took place four years ago
Describing the occasion Miss Nash said: 'I just started crying. How could I not? Just to be so happy.'
She said they make the perfect couple and they compliment each other in many ways. For example her hands were severely injured in her accident while Mr Wiens' are fine.
Miss Nash, who also has severe burns on her back and legs, admits that she was sending a text message when she drove off the road, and she now speaks to other young people about the dangers of texting and driving.
She added: 'It's a story of hope, a story of true survivors. I mean, if we can do it, I guarantee you, anybody out there - we all have a story.
'We're all going through something. And I want to give everybody hope.'
