Tega, Edwards Out Of Project Fame
Nigeria’s Tega and Sierra Leone’s Edward have emerged the first contestants to be shown the exit door from the on-going MTN Project Fame West Africa (season five) music competition.
The first elimination show for the season was held last Saturday, with group performances from the contestants. While the female contestants did a beautiful ensemble of ‘Don’t Let Go’ by En Vogue, the boys took up the challenge with Backstreet Boys’ ‘Don’t Leave Me’.
With rising perspiration, the host, Adora Oleh invited Yeside Oredugba of Alexander Forbes who presented the list of the five contestants with the least number votes and who would have to perform to escape eviction.
It was Joshua, Tega, Edward, Oyinkansade, and Chinyere who had the least votes. So, they faced the task of proving themselves to remain in the competition.
They repeated the songs they sang at their last performance. Joshua performed ‘You go kill me o’, Tega again performed Wizkid’s ‘Love My Baby’, Edward did Tu Face’s ‘African Queen’, Oyinkansade-As You See Me So also by Tu Face and finally for the evening with a loud ovation from the audience, Chinyere nailed Asa’s ‘Fire On The Mountain’.
Based on their performances, the judges saved Chinyere, Faculty saved Joshua and Oyinkasande narrowly escaped elimination with the other contestants’ votes leaving the axe of eviction to fall on Tega and Edward.
When asked how they felt about their eviction, they individually confessed that though it’s painful to leave at this point, they are grateful to God for making them come this far and their gratitude goes to the Faculty for bringing out the best in them.
Edward especially thanked God for making it to the Project Fame academy, having failed to achieve the feat in the four previous seasons, adding that he will go back to his country, Sierra Leone a fulfilled man.
Meanwhile, on Sunday, it was a celebration of R&B music as the remaining contestants in the competition performed to escape probation. While some of them upped their game and received corresponding accolades from judges and faculty, some of them did not escape the judges’ hard knocks after their performances.
Two contestants with least numbers of votes will also be evicted from the show tomorrow.
