Boeing Offers To Revive Nigerian Aviation Industry


Efforts to reposition the Nigerian Aviation Industry appears to be yielding positive results as Boeing, aircraft manufacturer, has entered into an agreement with the Aviation Ministry to assist in airlines’ fleet maintenance, renewal, acquisition and training of personnels.


In the deal which was brokered in the ongoing Nigeria Investors’ Road show to the United States of America, led by the Minister, Princess Stella Oduah, Boeing is expected to play a major role in the establishment of Maintenance and Repair Organisations (MROs) in the country, establish a training hub, carry out technical assessment of all aircraft operated by domestic airlines and develop an aviation database for the country

A statement by the Ministry of Aviation said that in the 8-Point Programme of Action signed between Boeing and the Minister Aviation, Boeing is also expected to develop an integrated air navigation system, optimisation system support for airports and airlines as well as assess existing spare-parts and material mart in Nigeria.

The statement further noted that under the technical assessment of aircraft operated by domestic airlines, Boeing will assess the technical and operational conditions of all aircraft operated in the country and advise the ministry on measures that will ensure sustainable safety in the nation’s airspace.

In the agreement, Boeing will also provide a diagnostic kit for early warning signals on the physical and operational conditions of domestic carriers and provide a check list for mitigating systems collapse.

Boeing is also expected to assess existing fleet capacity of the country’s domestic carriers and propose an appropriate model for fleet acquisition, management and renewal.

Under the MRO clause in the agreement, Boeing will carry out an assessment of all existing MRO platforms in Nigeria and report on their capacities, propose partnership models for the establishment of an integrated MRO platform for mandatory checks up to C-Checks and advise on infrastructure and operational requirements.

Boeing will conduct an assessment of training facilities and operational capacity of the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Zaria, and help close capacity gaps by proposing an appropriate training curricula to be adopted by NCAT.

Minister of Aviation, Princess Stella Oduah, was quoted in the statement as saying that the deal with Boeing will help to reposition the Aviation industry by enhancing the nation’s safety record as well as develop the industry as the hub on the continent.
